Sperry Top-Sider® and the New York Yacht Club® Join Top National Media In An Evening of Celebration

Lexington, MA (PRWEB) April 7, 2009 -- Sperry Top-Sider® and the New York Yacht Club® will host members of the top press in the nation on Tuesday, April 14 to celebrate their new partnership and the organizations' shared Passion for the Sea.

A virtual Who's Who of the New York-based media is expected to attend, from fashion magazines to music networks to the sailing press. The celebration will serve as the official press kick off for the New York Yacht Club Invitational Cup, a landmark regatta to be hosted by the club in Newport, RI from September 15 -19, 2009. Sperry Top-Sider is the exclusive footwear provider of the Invitational Cup and will debut its new performance sailing shoe at the event.

Held on the same waters that hosted the America's Cup for more than 50 years, the Invitational Cup will feature 19 teams representing yacht clubs from around the globe this September in Newport, R.I. "During the press event, guest speakers who are prominent players in the sailing community will share exciting news about the Invitational Cup and provide the media with a preview of what is to come in September," said the NYYC's John Mendez, chair of the event.

The evening will be set in the NYYC's Model Room, which represents the history of the club and yachting in a three-dimensional format, as the room holds the foremost collection of yacht models in the world. "The Model Room is the principal room in the building and home to regular club meetings. Its extensive history of yachting - in particular the America's Cup - is shown through the collection of models placed throughout the space, and we knew this was the perfect site to celebrate our relationship with Sperry Top-Sider," said Mendez.

In addition to featured guest speakers from both Sperry Top-Sider and the New York Yacht Club, the media will have an opportunity to preview Sperry's Fall 2009 Collection and get a "sneak peek" into 2010, while experiencing the true meaning of a Passion for the Sea.
